Author Guidelines

These guidelines provide the submission, manuscript preparation, research-integrity, peer-review, and publication requirements of Language, Technology, and Social Media.

Official Manuscript Submission System

All manuscripts must initially be submitted through the journal’s official Secure Manuscript Submission Form. The form functions as a controlled manuscript-intake and author-identity-verification gateway.

This controlled procedure is intended to reduce unauthorised OJS account creation, automated registration abuse, identity impersonation, spam submissions, duplicate submissions, and suspicious file uploads before a manuscript enters the journal’s internal editorial environment.

The Secure Manuscript Submission Form does not replace Open Journal Systems as the journal’s editorial management platform. After the corresponding author and submission information have been verified, authorised editorial personnel will register the manuscript and its metadata in OJS.

All subsequent editorial screening, reviewer assignment, double-blind peer review, revision, editorial decision, copyediting, typesetting, proofreading, metadata preparation, and publication procedures are administered and documented through OJS.

Submission and Verification Workflow

Author Identity Verification

The corresponding author must use an active and verifiable email address. An institutional email address is strongly preferred. The editorial office may verify the author’s name, institutional affiliation, ORCID record, academic profile, previous publications, contact information, and the consent of the listed co-authors.

The journal may suspend, reject, or investigate a submission that contains a false identity, inaccurate affiliation, unauthorised authorship, forged document, suspicious file, misleading declaration, or another indication of fraudulent activity.

A temporary submission receipt or intake reference number does not indicate that the manuscript has passed editorial screening, entered peer review, been accepted, or been scheduled for publication.

Types of Manuscript

Language, Technology, and Social Media publishes scholarly work addressing language, linguistic practice, communication, digital technology, social media, human-computer interaction, and related interdisciplinary fields.

Manuscript Preparation

• Manuscripts must be written in clear academic English.
• Use Microsoft Word or another compatible word-processing application.
• Use a single-column layout on A4 paper.
• Use Times New Roman, 12-point font, with 1.15 line spacing.
• Use margins of 2.54 cm on all sides.
• Insert figures and tables near their first citation in the text.
• Use the official journal template without changing the main page dimensions, typography, heading hierarchy, or reference format.
• Remove unnecessary personal information from the manuscript file before double-blind peer review, except where the journal template or editorial office instructs otherwise.

Review manuscripts may use a structure appropriate to the type of review. Systematic and scoping reviews should clearly report the databases, search dates, search strategy, eligibility criteria, screening procedure, quality-appraisal procedure, data-extraction process, and synthesis method.

Section-by-Section Requirements

Declaration of Generative AI Use

When generative AI or AI-assisted technologies have been used in manuscript preparation beyond basic spelling, grammar, or formatting assistance, authors must disclose the tool and its purpose in a section titled Declaration of Use of AI in the Writing Process.

Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, citations, interpretation, and integrity of the manuscript.

Figures and Tables

Supplementary Material and Research Data

Supplementary files may include datasets, instruments, coding frameworks, questionnaires, interview protocols, appendices, multimedia material, reporting checklists, or additional analyses. Each supplementary file must be clearly named and cited in the manuscript.

Authors should provide an appropriate data-availability statement. Data containing confidential, sensitive, copyrighted, or personally identifiable information must not be shared in a manner that violates ethical approval, informed consent, or applicable legal requirements.

References

References must follow the IEEE numerical reference style. In-text citations must be numbered consecutively according to their first appearance in the manuscript and enclosed individually in square brackets, for example [1], [2], and [3].

When multiple sources are cited together, each reference number should be presented in a separate pair of square brackets, for example [3], [4], [5]. Citation numbers must correspond exactly to the numbered entries in the reference list and must be reused consistently whenever the same source is cited again.

Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference-management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote to ensure consistency between in-text citations and the reference list.

Research Integrity and Editorial Requirements

All manuscripts are subject to editorial and technical screening, scope assessment, authorship verification, research-integrity checks, similarity screening, and independent peer review. Submission does not guarantee assignment to reviewers or acceptance for publication.

Peer-Review Process

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial and technical screening are evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process. Each research manuscript is normally evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with relevant subject expertise.

Authors may suggest qualified reviewers or identify individuals who should not be invited because of a potential conflict of interest. The editors retain full discretion over reviewer selection.

The final editorial decision is based on originality, scholarly contribution, methodological quality, ethical compliance, clarity, scope relevance, reviewer recommendations, and the manuscript’s significance to an international readership.

Article Processing Charge

The journal does not charge a manuscript submission fee, initial editorial-screening fee, peer-review fee, or paid fast-track peer-review fee.

For manuscripts submitted on or after 1 August 2026, the Article Processing Charge is USD 250 per accepted article. The charge becomes payable only after the manuscript has completed peer review, satisfied the required revisions, received a formal acceptance decision, and received an official invoice.

Manuscripts submitted before 1 August 2026 remain subject to the Article Processing Charge publicly stated on the journal website at the time of their original submission. The revised charge is not applied retrospectively.

Payment does not guarantee acceptance or publication and does not influence editorial screening, peer review, revision requirements, acceptance, or rejection. Full or partial waivers may be considered according to the journal’s published waiver policy.

Continuous Publication Policy

Effective from 2026, the journal publishes four regular issues annually:

The journal implements article-based continuous publication within each active quarterly issue. Articles that have completed peer review, editorial decision, revision, copyediting, layout, proofreading, and metadata verification are published individually as soon as they are ready.

Upon publication, each article becomes the final Version of Record and is assigned its volume, issue number, actual publication date, page range or article number, and Digital Object Identifier.

Submission Data and Privacy

Information collected through the Secure Manuscript Submission Form is used exclusively for manuscript administration, author identity verification, editorial communication, research-integrity screening, peer-review management, and publication-related purposes.

Access to submitted information and uploaded files is restricted to authorised editorial personnel. Temporary submission files will be removed from the intake storage after successful transfer and verification in OJS, unless continued retention is necessary for an authorship dispute, ethical investigation, security review, appeal, or legal obligation.

Authors must never submit passwords, one-time passwords, banking authentication codes, passports, national identity cards, or other unnecessary sensitive credentials through the submission form, email, or messaging applications.

Final Submission Checklist

• The manuscript is original and is not under consideration by another journal.
• The manuscript falls within the journal’s aims and scope.
• All authors have approved the manuscript, author order, and submission.
• The manuscript follows the journal template and IEEE reference style.
• All references, DOIs, tables, figures, and supplementary files have been checked.
• Ethical approval and informed-consent information have been provided where applicable.
• Funding, conflicts of interest, author contributions, data availability, and generative AI use have been declared.
• The corresponding author’s email address and contact information are active and accurate.
• The authors have read the peer-review, publication-ethics, plagiarism, privacy, APC, and continuous-publication policies.
