Access Principle

Immediate Open Access

BAFR makes the final published version of each article freely available online immediately upon publication. No subscription, institutional membership, registration, or reader payment is required to access the journal's published research.

BAFR does not apply an embargo period to published articles. The Version of Record is openly accessible from the date on which the article is formally published by the journal.

Author Rights

Copyright and Author Ownership

Authors retain copyright in their published articles. Authors grant BAFR and its publisher a non-exclusive right of first publication and the rights necessary to publish, preserve, and disseminate the Version of Record.

Copyright retention allows authors to continue using and distributing their work while the open license provides clear reuse rights to readers and other users.

No Reader or Subscription Charges

BAFR does not charge readers, libraries, or institutions to access the journal's published scholarly content. Access to articles is not dependent on institutional subscription, individual subscription, membership, or payment.

Publishing Model

Open Access and Article Processing Charges

Open access for readers is distinct from the journal's Article Processing Charge. Where an APC applies, it is associated with an accepted article and does not create a charge for readers to access the published content.

The APC has no influence on editorial evaluation, peer review, or acceptance decisions. Published content remains openly accessible irrespective of the funding arrangement associated with the article.

Self-Archiving

Authors may deposit and disseminate their published work through institutional repositories, disciplinary repositories, personal academic websites, research profiles, and other appropriate scholarly platforms.

Authors may archive the final published Version of Record after publication without an embargo period, provided that the original BAFR publication is properly acknowledged and, where practicable, the article DOI or persistent journal link is included.

Digital Scholarship

Computational and Machine-Assisted Reuse

Subject to the applicable license, copyright, attribution requirements, and lawful access conditions, BAFR content may be used for computational research, text and data analysis, machine-assisted discovery, indexing, and related scholarly purposes.

Scholarly Record

Version of Record

The final version formally published by BAFR constitutes the Version of Record. It represents the authoritative journal version associated with the article's publication metadata and DOI.

Users and authors are encouraged to link to or identify the Version of Record when redistributing published material so that readers can locate the authoritative article and any subsequent correction, update, expression of concern, or retraction associated with it.

Third-Party Material

The open-access license applicable to an article does not automatically apply to third-party material that is separately identified as subject to different copyright or licensing terms. Users are responsible for determining whether additional permission is required before reusing such material.

Long-Term Scholarly Access

Preservation and Continuing Access

BAFR regards long-term preservation and continuing access as an important component of open scholarly communication. Preservation arrangements and repository practices are described separately in the journal's Archiving and Deposit policies.
