Strategi Pengelolaan Ma’had Aly Arbaa Depok untuk Penguatan Mutu Pendidikan Islam
Abstract
Islamic higher education in pesantren traditions faces the dual challenge of preserving classical scholarly culture while strengthening institutional quality in response to contemporary demands. This study aimed to analyze the management strategies implemented at Ma’had Aly Arbaa Depok to strengthen the quality of Islamic education and to identify the factors supporting and constraining their implementation. A descriptive qualitative design was employed from January to May 2026. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis involving 21 purposively selected informants representing institutional leadership, academic management, lecturers, administrative staff, and mahasantri. Data were analyzed interactively through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification, while credibility was strengthened through source, technique, and time triangulation, member checking, and persistent observation. The findings identified five interrelated management dimensions: strengthening Islamic academic vision and culture, developing an integrated curriculum, improving human resources, implementing intensive pesantren-based learning and discipline, and conducting educational evaluation and supervision. These dimensions operated as a management cycle in which vision guided curriculum, human resources enabled implementation, learning translated institutional values into practice, and evaluation provided feedback for continuous improvement. Supporting conditions included institutional commitment, educator involvement, curriculum integration, and the pesantren environment, whereas constraints involved heterogeneous student entry competencies, limited human resources and monitoring time, intensive academic-pesantren demands, and incomplete evaluation documentation. The study implies that quality improvement in Ma’had Aly should prioritize an integrated, evidence-informed management cycle that strengthens evaluation documentation, adaptive student support, staff capacity, and selective use of educational technology without weakening pesantren scholarly identity.
