Gender, Islamic Law, and Sustainability (GILS) was established in January 2026 by WISE Pendidikan Indonesia as a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal that provides an academic platform for interdisciplinary research at the intersection of gender studies, Islamic law, and sustainability. The journal was founded to respond to the growing need for rigorous and relevant scholarship addressing contemporary global and local challenges related to gender equity, Islamic legal perspectives, and sustainable development.
The first issue of the journal, Volume 1 Number 1, was officially published in February 2026. Since its establishment, GILS has been committed to maintaining high editorial standards, promoting ethical and quality research publication, and fostering international academic collaboration. Through its continuous development, the journal aims to strengthen its academic reputation and serve as a reputable reference for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers in the fields of gender, Islamic law, and sustainability.
