Abstract

Quantum concepts are difficult to represent through static explanations, but the instructional value of immersive media must be evaluated rather than assumed. This study describes an initial virtual reality (VR) design in Delightex Edu for photon and photon-energy learning. The reported development process adapts a three-stage needs–materials–design sequence and uses the Pantelidis framework for VR design decisions through virtual-environment construction. Documented artefacts depict objectives and three proposed activities: ordering labeled light sources by photon energy, exploring a flashlight representation of photons, and tracing photovoltaic energy conversion. These scenes were conceptually mapped to interpreting, exemplifying, classifying, summarizing, inferring, comparing, and explaining. The design requires explicit frequency/energy labels, prompts, feedback, and clarification that visual photon particles and energy-flow cues are models rather than direct observations. Observation and teacher-interview information was reported as a source of needs, but the site, participants, timing, and excerpts were unavailable for independent assessment. The study reports neither expert validation nor functionality, usability, or learning-effectiveness tests. Accordingly, the contribution is a documented preliminary design, not evidence of improved conceptual understanding. Future work should verify physical accuracy, review the design with experts, test implementation, and evaluate learning outcomes.
